Movie Night: The Shop Around the Corner

Valentine's Day, Movie NightAmy WileyComment

February has our eyes set on romance and romantic comedies are the perfect fare for that kind of mood. Our kids aren’t quite old enough for some of our rom-com favorites, so we went old school. The Shop Around the Corner is from 1940 and You’ve Got Mail is actually its remake. This is a darling movie! (We rented it from iTunes.)

It was all hearts and flowers for the tablescape. I absolutely love all the pink and red this time of year.

I used our dessert as part of the centerpiece. A pretty cake deserves center stage!

The “Hey Valentine” napkins were in the January box from the Sassy Napkin Society.

For dinner we enjoyed steak tips, Brussels sprouts and macaroni and cheese.

Our little chocolate mousse cake from Trader Joe’s was just as delicious as it was pretty. It was a sweet ending to a great meal.

This movie is funny, witty, surprising and charming.  After the kids went to bed my husband and I watched You’ve Got Mail.  It was fun to see what this movie drew from the original.  Meg Ryan’s character’s bookstore is called “The Shop Around the Corner” and a few scenes are taken directly from the 1940 version.

We love old movies because they are cleaner and just refreshing. It’s fun to see the differences from life today that you don’t always think about. Here’s to a weekend full of love!
