Something to CelebrateAmy WileyComment

Back-to-school time is a big transition and deserving of a celebration to mark the passage into new grades and new beginnings.  We did a fun little dinner after the first full day of school for both kids.

I know apples are common for this time of year, but cherries are relevant to us and the area we live in.  They also go well with the primary colors of school time.

I cooked up a simple meal and we spent the evening talking all about the day.

We gave our daughter this book and our son this book (he absolutely loves the whole series) as a fun surprise to start off the school year.  Our daughter told us she already got to read a devotional to her class this week... so these were a big hit.

It was a sweet time together and of course we had to have a sweet ending.  Grocery store cupcakes for the win!

I'll leave you with one of our favorite back-to-school traditions... reading The Kissing Hand.  Oh, it gets me every time!

I'm praying for all the kids out there to have a fun, safe, blessed school year!

Tuesday Treats: Momma’s School Supplies

Tuesday TreatsAmy WileyComment

It’s time to gear up for earlier mornings and wearing something besides a swimsuit and cover-up. This means as kids head back to school, us mommas need a few supplies too.   My daughter likes me to walk her to class, which means actually getting out of the car and trying to be halfway presentable. Of course I will gladly do this as long as she lets me!  Below are the things I wear and use every day.  A cozy cardigan to throw over my workout clothes, a lanyard for my school ID, sunglasses for my tired eyes... they are like my school uniform!

Happy Back-to-School!

Movie Night: Teacher's Pet

Movie NightAmy Wiley3 Comments

Around here, Friday night is movie night.  It's something we look forward to all week.  The start of a new school year inspired this movie selection, Teacher's Pet

I always decorate the house a little for "back to school" so I pulled from those items for the table.  I love the thought of freshly-sharpened pencils, new school supplies, and the primary colors associated with a new school year.  Teacher supply stores are a great place to find decorations like this.  I think my little school bus flower pot is from Zulily.

These pencils are actually Christmas ornaments that live in my school decor stash.

As for the movie, it was a silly one.  The kids loved it.  It's not exactly destined to be a cherished family favorite, but fit the bill for a relaxing movie night after our first week back in the grind.  We all got a kick out of it!

In the coming weeks I'll share how I plan our movie nights, find family-friendly movies, and why it's so important to us.  Spoiler alert... it's all about keeping it simple and fun.
